SANTA CLAUS - North Pole, AK

Ryder, Tate, Santa, Shiloh, Choice, and Juliann
Today we had the chance to meet someone who donated not only to our family, but donates to each and every child in the world on an annual basis.  I am talking of course of jolly old St. Nicholas, A.K.A...Santa Claus.

While in Alaska we made it a priority to go the the North Pole.  There were several things to see in this infamous town.  Santa Claus' house was first on that list.

On Santa's property is a barn that's home to his reindeer.  We took time to visit with Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, and Blitzen.  Rudolph must have been on a summer vacation of his own because he wasn't home during our visit. (Either that or on my breakfast plate this morning).

We had a blast checking out all of the names on Santa's NICE LIST... I'm not sure why I was surprised that none of our names appeared on that list.  I suppose we need to continue our mission to BE BETTER.

This town was incredible!  In large part, because they celebrate Christmas all year long.

In honor of the town we were staying in for the night, and the fact we were staying in The Santa Claus suite at the North Pole Hotel...we celebrated a little Christmas in August.  Santa even made another small donation to each of the kiddos in the middle of the night...

The North Pole was a town full of cheer.  We had an almost fairytale-like experience...with the exception of one memorable and note-worthy moment.  We stopped by the North Pole Fire Department on our way out of town.  We wanted to snag a photo of the kids in front of their department sign.  We pulled to the side of the road and had the kids hop out quickly and run over to the sign for a picture.  It only took 10 seconds or so before blood curdling screams came from all of them.  What the heck???  BEES!!!!!!!!!

Two of the four of them had been stung by bees.  As our terrible luck would have it, there was a hive smack dab in the middle of the flower bed in front of the fire department sign.  I feel bad admitting this but Morghen and I were on the ground in tears laughing at the dramatic performance by all the kids.  I don't blame them, nor was it an overreaction given the actual stings, but it was hysterical nonetheless.  When I gathered my composure enough to console my aching children, we snapped these photos of poor Shiloh and Tate...

Morghen didn't want Choice to feel left out so she did her best to add him to the injured list... :-)

All in all, the North Pole was an amazing experience for us.  Turns out, Santa is part of the Be Better Brigade.  He even gave us a message to deliver to kids everywhere along our journey.
