‘Behind the Flames’ fundraiser salutes Scottsdale firefighters

Celebrate, honor and pay tribute to firefighters at the 15th annual “Behind the Flames” Scottsdale Firefighters Charities Dinner held at Dominick’s Steakhouse in the Scottsdale Quarter on Sunday, Sept. 20.

Sponsored by the Scottsdale Firefighters Association and to be attended by Scottsdale Mayor Jim Lane, city council members and supporters, the annual dinner recognizes outstanding Scottsdale firefighters, including announcing the 2015 Firefighter of the Year.
The evening kicks off at 5 p.m. where guests will enjoy cocktails-with-a-view on the rooftop of Dominick’s Steakhouse, followed by a dining experience of prime steaks, seafood and signature dishes at 6 p.m.
Dominick’s Steakhouse is located in the Scottsdale Quarter at 14169 N. Scottsdale Road in Scottsdale.
The Scottsdale Firefighter Association welcomes six-time Olympic Gold Medalist Amy Van Dyken-Rouen and Arizona Hotshot Widow Juliann Ashcraft as the featured speakers.
Olympian swimmer and motivational speaker Amy Van Dyken-Rouen originally gained worldwide recognition in the 1996 Summer Olympics where she won four gold medals. Eighteen years later, the Arizona resident continues to demonstrate strength and perseverance following a severe ATV accident that left her paralyzed from the waist down.
Today The Amy Van Dyken foundation works to improve the lives of individuals with spinal cord injuries.
Arizona Hotshot Widow Juliann Ashcraft’s late husband, Andrew Ashcraft, was one of the 19 Granite Mountain Hotshots who perished in the Yarnell Hill Wildfire on June 30, 2013.
Individual tickets for the evening are $150 and several sponsorship packages are available for the 2015 Scottsdale Firefighter Charities Dinner. Proceeds benefit more than a dozen charities, including the Boys and Girls Club, Scottsdale Foothills Animal Rescue, City of Scottsdale Youth Deployment and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk.
