VALLEYARTS FIREHOUSE GALLERY - Orange NJ

Today's Homeschooling Schedule:

First: P.E.

Before leaving the Sam's Club parking lot where we slept for the night, the kids strapped on their roller skates and hopped atop their skateboards to get a little exercise.  It is so fun to see Tate getting better and better on the roller skates he received for his birthday.

Second: Art

It's become a favorite activity of the kids' to color pictures for the donors whom we are going to visit.  Today's visit was to a gallery, which made for extraordinarily special works of art. :-)

New Jersey's donation came from the Valley Arts Firehouse Gallery in Orange.  We were unsuccessful in our attempts to get in touch with them prior to stopping by, however, we made an attempt to see them nonetheless.

The building was spectacular.  It was an old firehouse that had been converted into an art gallery.

The exterior still maintained the resemblance of a firehouse but looked very artistic and eclectic.

We rang the bell several times but no one was in.  At least we were able to leave them some goodies on their doorstep to find when they arrive.  Orange is a lucky town to have businesses in their community who understand the importance of public outreach and community service.  A big, big thank you to the staff of Valley Arts Firehouse Gallery for blessing our lives when we needed it most.

Third: Geography

We talked about how far we've come on our trip and where we are now.  With 42 states under our belt, we are spending our day today experiencing New Jersey.

Fourth: Physics

This portion of our homeschooling day was taught using an object lesson:
What goes up, must come down.

We got tickets to an indoor trampoline arena in Edison, NJ.  This facility, called Rebounderz, was AMAZING!!  They had several activities including a foam pit, a trampoline arena, and trampoline basketball courts.  The kids were eager to try them all.

Fifth: Meteorology

With all of the natural disasters taking place around the world, we were discussing hurricanes; what they are and where they come from.  It just so happened that we found a hurricane simulator to try out before the day was over.  We got a taste, in a mild dose, as to what it would be like to be caught in a hurricane.

My heart aches for the families and communities of those people whose lives have been altered so drastically by hurricanes in the recent months.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you as you recover and rebuild.

The Ashcraft children's school day has come to an end. Now that they are fast asleep in their bunks, it's time for me to contemplate a lesson of my own.

What is it that makes us tick?  What are those buzz words for us that light us up inside and hold the key to the dreams we have maintained throughout all of these years?  Do we dare to dream anymore?  Have we forgotten all that we are capable of?

I challenge you to click on the link below and watch this short clip.  By the end, try and fill in this blank...I DREAM TO _________________________________________________.

Write It Down.
Have Courage.
Move Forward.
Be Better.
